My first Batizado by Beija Flor
Beija Flor joined Professor Cobra and Capoeira Nago group as a complete beginner in Fleet and now holds her 4th student belt. Here is what she has to say about her first Batizado.
"I had trained Capoeira for a year when I was told that I will grade at the next Batizado which was jointly organised by Professor Cobra and Formado Gringo. However, I could not get out of the prior commitment I had made for the actual grading part of the event, so I was told that I would receive my belt at one of the workshops, but I had no idea which workshop or even which day of the event. I was a bit shocked when I was called up on the Friday night - embarrassed does not describe how I felt. I didn't play just with one teacher (as it normally happens), I ended up playing all the teachers over and over until I could barely stand. It was an absolutely lovely experience, one you feel proud of once it's over. I will always remember those games; however, receiving the following two belts at the grading event together with my friends was much more enjoyable and fun sharing the excitement, anticipation and our experiences in the end. "
